Tottenham preparing £30m approach for Jean-Matteo Bahoya as summer target

Tottenham are reportedly preparing a £30m bid for Jean-Matteo Bahoya from Eintracht Frankfurt, targeting the pacey France U21 winger to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s attack this summer.

Tottenham preparing £30m approach for Jean-Matteo Bahoya

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Jean-Matteo Bahoya as a priority target ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports from Fussballdaten.
The north London club is said to be readying a formal offer in the region of £30 million (approximately €35 million) as it looks to add depth and dynamism to Roberto De Zerbi’s forward options.

The interest reflects Spurs’ longer-term approach to recruitment, seeking young players with clear physical attributes and room for growth.
Club sources and scouting reports cited by the German outlet highlight Bahoya’s potential to develop into a regular contributor at Premier League level.

Bahoya’s path from Angers to Eintracht Frankfurt

Jean-Matteo Bahoya emerged from the Angers SCO academy and broke into senior football with the Ligue 1 side, where he made 32 first‑team appearances before moving on.
Eintracht Frankfurt secured his services in January 2024, continuing the club’s reputation for unearthing and polishing promising attacking talents.

Although Bahoya’s raw goal figures from his time at Angers were modest, his performances attracted attention for more than just scoring.
Scouts noted his willingness to run in behind, his pace in open play, and the technical comfort that allowed him to contribute in multiple attacking phases.

On-field numbers and development trajectory

Since joining Frankfurt, Bahoya has improved his end product and contributed eight goal involvements across competitions in the most recent campaign.
That progress has come despite limited starts and periods spent competing for a guaranteed place in the XI, underlining steady rather than explosive development.

Coaches who have worked with Bahoya point to a player still refining his final ball and decision-making in the box.
Those attributes are typically judged salvageable by clubs like Tottenham, who often prioritise athletic upside and tactical adaptability when signing young forwards.

Exceptional speed and Bundesliga milestone

One of the defining features of Bahoya’s game is his top-end speed, which has already produced one of the standout statistical moments of his short Bundesliga career.
During Eintracht Frankfurt’s match against Bochum in the 2024–25 season, tracking data recorded Bahoya reaching 23.09 mph (37.16 km/h), a mark the league had not seen since the introduction of detailed tracking in the 2011–12 era.

That top speed made him the first player in the Bundesliga tracking era to exceed both 23 mph and 37 km/h in a single recorded appearance.
Observers compared the figure to elite sprinting benchmarks as context, noting it sits only marginally below the average top speed registered by Usain Bolt during his 100m world record performance.

Tactical fit under Roberto De Zerbi

Tottenham’s interest is informed by De Zerbi’s style, which places a premium on quick transition play, vertical passing and wide players who can stretch defences.
Bahoya’s ability to exploit space behind defenders and carry the ball at pace aligns with the tactical template De Zerbi has implemented since arriving at the club.

The Italian coach’s teams generate frequent counterattacking situations and look for wingers who combine acceleration with an eye for the pass.
If Tottenham secure Bahoya, the club will likely work on integrating him gradually, emphasising positional discipline and the finishing details required in the Premier League.

Transfer market outlook and valuation

The reported £30m price tag reflects both Bahoya’s youth and his demonstrable physical attributes rather than an exhaustive scoring record.
Frankfurt’s recruitment and development model has a track record of selling emerging players for premium fees, which could shape negotiations if Spurs proceed with a formal bid.

Multiple clubs are understood to be monitoring the winger, a reminder that Frankfurt could command competitive offers during the summer window.
Tottenham’s advantage may rest on the clarity of their project and the promise of regular minutes under a coach with a clear plan for dynamic wide players.

The potential acquisition represents a calculated investment in raw athleticism and upside rather than immediate match-winning returns.
For Bahoya, a move to the Premier League would present a substantial step up in intensity and tactical demand, and success will depend on adaptation as much as on natural speed and technique.

Tottenham’s next steps will likely include a formal approach to Eintracht Frankfurt and personal terms negotiations with the player, with a possible announcement dependent on the club reaching an agreement.
As with all transfer stories, the situation remains fluid and subject to change as the window progresses and other suitors position themselves.

Should Jean-Matteo Bahoya join Spurs this summer, his signing would signal the club’s continued emphasis on acquiring young, high-ceiling attackers to fit De Zerbi’s transitional game.
