The Mwiri League Season 6 grand finale will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Ruck Yard in Jinja City and promises a full day of football, music and alumni fellowship. Organizers said the retro-themed event will close out the sixth edition of the alumni competition and bring together teams, former students and supporters from across the region.

Preparations for the finale were confirmed at a press launch held on June 16, 2026, at Inspire Café in Kampala, where league chairman Shadrack Olinga told reporters that logistical arrangements and match-day planning had been finalised. Olinga invited Busoga College Mwiri alumni and football fans to attend and said organisers had worked closely with partners to ensure a memorable finale.

Finale set for June 20 at Ruck Yard, Jinja

The Ruck Yard will host the season-closing fixtures on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with organisers describing the day as a celebration of sport and alumni community. The venue in Jinja City has been selected to accommodate both the football programme and the wider entertainment line-up planned for the retro-themed event.

Organisers emphasised that the event will be a full-day affair, combining knockout football with live performances and social activities to encourage reunion and networking among alumni cohorts. The announcement at the Kampala press launch reiterated that all match-day operations, security and partner activations have been coordinated in advance.

New knockout format to decide Shield and Plate

This season’s finale will deviate from past editions by staging two separate knockout competitions involving all 16 participating teams. The top eight teams in the season standings will contest the Shield title, while the lower eight will compete for the Plate trophy, a format designed to ensure competitive matchups across the table.

League officials said the split-knockout arrangement gives every team a clear postseason target and creates additional high-stakes fixtures for supporters to enjoy. The structure also preserves competitive integrity by allowing similarly ranked squads to meet in direct elimination matches on the day.

Guinness returns as headline partner and matchday activator

Guinness, which has supported the Mwiri League through multiple seasons, will again play a central role at the finale and is expected to supply on-site activations and matchday hospitality. A Guinness representative at the launch praised the league’s role in fostering alumni connections and said the brand was proud to support Season 6’s climax.

The sponsor told organisers it would bring its trademark matchday energy to Jinja and make its products available at accessible prices to enhance the spectator experience. Guinness described its involvement as part of a broader commitment to events that promote community, friendly rivalry and shared celebration.

Music and DJs to complement the football action

Beyond the fixtures, organisers have confirmed a robust entertainment programme to accompany the day’s football schedule. Celebrated singer Lillian Mbabazi will headline the live set, supported by the Sundowners Band, while a mix of Kampala and Jinja DJs will provide continuous music between matches.

The entertainment line-up is intended to keep the atmosphere lively throughout the day and to attract attendees who come both for sport and social reunion. Event organisers indicated that the festival-style approach is aimed at broadening the event’s appeal to families, alumni groups and general football supporters.

CSR drive: alumni to donate medicine storage machine to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital

A corporate social responsibility component will take place earlier on match day when different alumni cohorts visit Jinja Regional Referral Hospital to hand over a medicine storage machine. Organisers said the donation is part of the league’s effort to contribute tangibly to local public services during the finale.

The donation is intended to support healthcare delivery at the regional referral facility, and organisers stressed that the CSR activity represents a cornerstone of the league’s community engagement. Alumni involvement in the hospital visit underscores the dual purpose of the Mwiri League as both a sporting competition and a forum for alumni-led social initiatives.

Organisers call on alumni, supporters and football lovers to attend

Chairman Shadrack Olinga extended a public invitation to all Busoga College Mwiri alumni, football enthusiasts and friends of the league to turn out for the finale in Jinja. He said the event is not only a competition but also an opportunity for networking, nostalgia and reconnecting with classmates and teammates.

Organisers asked supporters to plan travel to Jinja and to arrive early to participate in the full programme of matches, entertainment and community activities. They also thanked partners and volunteers for their role in delivering the season’s final event and urged guests to respect venue guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable day.

Season 6 of the Mwiri League has been marked by steady participation and partner engagement, qualities organisers and sponsors alike credited with helping the competition grow into a notable alumni sporting calendar date. With the Ruck Yard set to host the retro-themed celebration on June 20, 2026, organisers expect the finale to reinforce the league’s role as a platform for healthy competition and community-building.

The Mwiri League Season 6 grand finale will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Ruck Yard in Jinja; attendees should expect knockout football, live music, DJs, sponsor activations from Guinness and an alumni-led donation to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.
