LaLiga revenues 2024–25 surge 9% to €4.1bn, led by Real Madrid and Barcelona

LaLiga revenues 2024–25 rose 9% to €4.1bn, Deloitte reports, as Real Madrid and Barcelona generated more than half of the league’s income through commercial and matchday gains.

Strong overall growth for LaLiga in 2024–25

LaLiga recorded a 9% increase in total revenues for the 2024–25 season, reaching €4.1 billion, according to Deloitte’s 35th Annual Review of Football Finance.
The uplift represents roughly €300 million more than the prior campaign and places Spain’s top flight as the third-highest revenue-generating league in Europe behind the Premier League and the Bundesliga.

The league’s improvement came from multiple income streams, with notable rises in commercial activity and matchday receipts.
This combination of factors underpinned a recovery in operating profitability for many Spanish clubs and a narrowing of financial pressures experienced in previous seasons.

Real Madrid and Barcelona account for majority of LaLiga income

Real Madrid led club-level revenues with €1.2 billion, while FC Barcelona followed at €975 million, making them the financial engine of the competition.
Together the two clubs contributed more than €2.1 billion and accounted for 52% of LaLiga’s total income, up from 48% the year before.

That concentration of income underscores the growing gap between Spain’s top two clubs and the rest of the league, and highlights the outsized commercial pull of Madrid and Barcelona.
Their combined performance amplified leaguewide revenue growth and shaped both sponsorship negotiations and broadcast valuations.

Commercial and matchday gains fuel the increase

Commercial revenues for LaLiga rose 22% to €1.6 billion, driven in part by Barcelona’s renewed sponsorship arrangements and Real Madrid’s first full year of commercial activity following the Bernabéu redevelopment.
Matchday income also climbed 22%, reaching €800 million as stadium attendances and premium seating sales strengthened across the competition.

Barcelona accounted for more than 70% of the incremental revenue in the period, largely due to the accounting recognition of Personal Seat Licenses (PSLs) tied to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.
These PSLs and other premium offerings translated stadium investment into immediate commercial returns, shifting the club’s revenue mix toward higher-margin matchday and seat-related income.

Operating profit and wage improvements among Spanish clubs

Collectively, Spanish clubs reported a positive swing in operating performance, with aggregate operating profit around €300 million driven by core commercial activities.
Clubs also reduced their wage-to-revenue ratios to approximately 60%, indicating a structural move toward more sustainable payroll practices compared with recent seasons.

The improved margin profile reflects both revenue growth and more disciplined cost management, though the league’s reliance on its top clubs for a large share of income remains a strategic risk.
Sustaining profitability will depend on whether mid-table and smaller clubs can replicate commercial innovations and stadium-led revenue opportunities.

European football reaches a new revenue milestone

Across Europe, Deloitte’s report found that total football market revenues exceeded €40.2 billion in 2024–25, a historic high for the sport on the continent.
The so-called “big five” leagues—LaLiga, the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1—collectively generated €21.6 billion, up around 6% from the prior period.

This expansion was unevenly distributed, with some leagues benefitting from major tournaments, infrastructure-driven income and elevated commercial deals.
The result is a European market that is larger in aggregate but still shaped by sharp revenue disparities between and within leagues.

League-by-league comparisons and key drivers

The Premier League remained Europe’s top earner with revenues of roughly €7.98 billion, up some 8%, though it reported increased pre-tax losses tied to elevated transfer spending and the absence of extraordinary income.
Germany’s Bundesliga achieved around €4.3 billion in revenues, a 12% increase helped by hosting Euro 2024, exceptionally high stadium occupancy rates and a record operational contribution in the period.

Italy’s Serie A posted a 4% rise to about €3.0 billion, with Juventus, Inter and Milan concentrating roughly 45% of the domestic business and driving commercial improvements.
By contrast, France’s Ligue 1 saw a 15% decline to €2.2 billion, affected by the cessation of one-off CVC funds and issues with a major domestic broadcaster that weighed on the league’s top-line and produced elevated losses for some clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain’s scale and implications for competition

Paris Saint-Germain reported revenues near €800 million, a level that remains materially higher than other clubs in Ligue 1 and underscores a persistent imbalance within the French market.
PSG’s financial scale—often several multiples above domestic rivals—continues to shape commercial negotiations and competitive dynamics in France.

The divergence between PSG and its league peers highlights how single-club financial outperformance can distort national competition and influence transfer market behavior.
League-level policy responses and commercial redistribution mechanisms will be critical to addressing long-term competitiveness and financial fairness.

Looking ahead, LaLiga’s ability to build on this momentum will depend on sustaining commercial innovation, leveraging stadium assets and supporting broader revenue growth beyond its two largest clubs.
Continued emphasis on diversified income streams and prudent cost management will be essential as European football navigates investment cycles, broadcast rights evolutions and competition for global commercial partners.
