LFA Overturns Ruling in Tebeh FC Eligibility Dispute After Independent Video Review

LFA overturns sanction in Tebeh FC eligibility dispute after video showed mistaken identity; referee suspended and Theo United has filed a counter-appeal now.

Tebeh FC’s eligibility dispute was resolved temporarily on June 30, 2026, when the Liberia Football Association’s Grievance and Disciplinary Committee (GDC) overturned a disciplinary finding that had threatened to strip the third-division side of a 5-0 playoff win.
The committee’s decision followed an independent video review that concluded an assistant referee misidentified the player involved in an act of dissent during a June 13 match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex practice pitch.
The reversal reinstates Tebeh FC’s victory from the June 16 playoff against Theo United FC while the LFA considers a counter-appeal filed by Theo United.

LFA Reverses Disciplinary Ruling

The Grievance and Disciplinary Committee, which hears appeals and disciplinary matters for the LFA, set aside the earlier determination issued by the Legal, Compliance and Integrity Department.

The department had acted on an official match report that named Tebeh FC’s William Kilima as the offender, rendering him ineligible for the club’s subsequent playoff match on June 16, 2026.
After reviewing new evidence, the GDC concluded the report contained a technical error and ruled that Kilima was eligible to take part in the Theo United fixture.

Video Review Identifies Mistaken Identity

The decisive element in the appeal was match footage provided by independent sports media outlet Intel Sports, which the GDC examined in a multi-party session.

Committee members, representatives of both clubs, and members of the match officiating crew observed the playback together, and the footage showed the confrontation was carried out by Tebeh FC captain Bedellson Bedell, wearing jersey number 20.
The review found that Assistant Referee No. 2 Vamadum Sheriff had relayed incorrect field information to center referee Hossineh Hassan, who then recorded the wrong name in the official post-match report.

Chronology of the June 13 and June 16 Matches

On June 13, 2026, Tebeh FC faced Soul Clinic Athletic at the SKD Sports Complex practice pitch in a fixture that drew local attention for its competitive intensity.

Following that game, the assistant referee’s report led to swift action from the LFA’s Integrity Department, which issued sanctions based on the identification contained in the official paperwork.
Those sanctions threatened to bar a player from the club’s June 16, 2026 playoff against Theo United FC, a match Tebeh won on the field by a 5-0 margin that is now being allowed to stand pending the final ruling on the counter-appeal.

Assistant Referee Suspended Following Error

In addition to overturning the individual sanction, the GDC imposed disciplinary measures on the match official whose error triggered the dispute.

Assistant Referee Vamadum Sheriff has been suspended from officiating the remainder of the 2025/2026 Montserrado County Sub-Association Playoffs and is barred from participating in the upcoming National Playoffs.
The committee described the suspension as an enforcement of professional accountability intended to preserve integrity in match reporting and officiating standards.

Theo United Lodges Counter-Appeal

Theo United FC has not accepted the GDC’s reversal and has filed a counter-appeal with the LFA, setting the stage for further administrative review.

The club’s challenge focuses on the yellow card incident recorded in the original match report and contends that the center referee had confirmed Kilima’s booking at the time.
The LFA will reassess all relevant materials — including the center referee’s original statement, match records, and any additional evidence submitted by Theo United — before issuing a final determination on whether the match result stands or is to be amended.

Impact on Playoffs and Lower-League Governance

The episode highlights how administrative errors can have immediate and material effects on clubs competing for promotion and on the careers of individual players.

In lower-tier competitions where formal Video Assistant Referee systems are not in place, the LFA’s willingness to use independent video and third-party footage to resolve disputes signals a pragmatic approach to adjudication.
By reversing a finding from its own Integrity Department, the Mustapha Raji-led LFA administration underscored the principle that sporting sanctions must be grounded in verifiable evidence.

The outcome of Theo United’s counter-appeal will determine whether Tebeh FC’s 5-0 playoff victory remains officially recorded and whether any further sanctions or adjustments to the Montserrado County Sub-Association Playoffs standings follow.
