Vietnam will begin preparations on June 22, 2026, and will travel to South Korea for a training camp from July 2 to July 14 that includes three international friendlies as part of its build-up to the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026. The move to South Korea is the centerpiece of Vietnam’s short-term schedule and the focus of the national team’s efforts to sharpen tactics and fitness ahead of the regional tournament. The program will conclude with a home friendly against Myanmar at Thái Nguyên Stadium on July 18 before the team departs for the Cup opener on July 24.

South Korea camp dates and structure

Vietnam will assemble the squad in Hanoi on June 22, 2026, for an initial domestic training block before flying to South Korea on July 2. The overseas camp is scheduled to run through July 14 and will combine on-field training with scheduled tune-up matches against international opposition.

Coaching staff have planned three friendlies during the South Korea stay to provide match minutes for the core players and test tactical variations. The camp structure is intended to give adequate recovery time between matches while simulating the travel and environmental conditions the team will face during tournament play.

Planned friendlies and the Myanmar warm-up

Three international friendlies are confirmed for the South Korea camp, though opponents and kick-off details have not been publicly disclosed by the Vietnam Football Federation. Those matches are expected to blend fixtures against club sides and national teams to offer different tactical tests.

After returning to Hanoi, Vietnam will host Myanmar in an international friendly at Thái Nguyên Stadium on July 18, 2026. That fixture will serve as the final match rehearsal before the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 and is likely to shape final selection decisions and starting formations for the opening match.

Squad management and selection priorities

The coaching staff will balance player fitness, club commitments and tactical needs while finalizing the roster for the Cup. With the training start on June 22 and competitive play beginning July 24, the staff have a narrow window to integrate new players and rehabilitate any lingering injuries.

Expectations are that the coaching team will bring a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent to the South Korea camp. Rotation during the friendlies will be used deliberately to evaluate depth and ensure key starters arrive at the Cup in peak condition.

Tactical objectives for the title defence

As defending champions, Vietnam will use the friendlies in South Korea to refine the tactical foundation that delivered the last title. Emphasis is likely to be placed on defensive organisation, rapid transitions and set-piece execution, areas that often decide tightly contested regional matches.

Coaches may also use the camp to trial alternative systems and pressing triggers against varied opposition. The aim will be to maintain the team’s attacking identity while building resiliency and tactical flexibility for the different styles they will encounter at the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026.

Cup opener and competitive landscape

Vietnam’s first match in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 is scheduled away to Timor-Leste on July 24, 2026, marking the start of their title defence. That opening fixture requires the squad to be match-ready immediately, amplifying the importance of the July friendlies and the final Myanmar warm-up.

The regional field includes several nations that have closed the gap in recent cycles, so Vietnam will be preparing not only for the opener but for a compact schedule where recovery and squad depth become decisive. The federation’s scheduling choices reflect a clear aim to enter the tournament with tactical clarity and physical readiness.

Logistics, federation planning and fan engagement

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has coordinated travel, training venues and match logistics to provide stable preparation conditions during the South Korea camp. The choice of South Korea reflects a preference for quality facilities, competitive match opportunities and a neutral environment for focused preparation.

The July 18 friendly in Thái Nguyên gives domestic supporters a final chance to see the team before the Cup, and it will serve both as a tactical rehearsal and a public relations event. The VFF is also likely to use the period to finalise administrative matters such as player registration, medical clearances and media arrangements for the Cup.

Vietnam’s friendlies in South Korea will provide a controlled environment to sharpen match fitness ahead of the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 while allowing coaching staff to evaluate different tactical options. The combination of overseas training, multiple tune-up matches and a final domestic rehearsal reflects a targeted approach to defending the title.

Vietnam enters the closing phase of its pre-tournament schedule determined to arrive at the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 prepared, with a clear plan to use the South Korea camp and the Thái Nguyên friendly as the final assessments before kickoff.
