Shaita Angels have had all previously forfeited matches, points and goals restored after the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Appeals Committee overturned a ruling by the Grievance and Disciplinary Committee. The Appeals Committee issued its decision on Monday, July 6, 2026, finding both procedural and substantive faults in the challenge to the club’s use of three foreign players. The reversal affirms the eligibility of Kaddy Jarju, Z. Mary Nunoo and Comfort Osei Frimpong and immediately alters the competitive landscape in the Liberia Women’s First Division.

Appeals Committee Reverses Forfeitures

The Appeals Committee, chaired by Cllr. Supu H.W. Cole Sr., unanimously reversed the sanctions that had been imposed on Shaita Angels by the lower committee. The earlier decision had led to the forfeiture of matches, points and goals that were now ordered to be restored with immediate effect. Committee members Atty. Rawlins P. Jardia and Sensee Kiadii joined Cole in concluding that the original penalties were legally unsound.

The reinstatement removes the disciplinary record that had been attached to the club and reinstates its competitive standing for the ongoing season. The ruling explained that remedial action was necessary both to correct the administrative record and to preserve the integrity of the competition. For players, staff and supporters, the decision brings clarity and relief after months of uncertainty.

Complaint Against Club Dismissed as Time-Barred

The Appeals Committee found that the challenge brought by Ravia Angels F.C. was filed outside the deadline set by the LFA Rules and Regulations and therefore could not be considered. According to the committee, the complaint was submitted on May 26, 2026, which placed it three to four months after the contested fixtures in December 2025 and January 2026. Under Article 13.2-1 of the LFA Rules, clubs are required to lodge match-related complaints within 10 days of the relevant incident.

Because the submission fell well beyond that statutory window, the committee held the appeal to be "void ab initio," meaning it was legally defective from the outset and should have been dismissed without further examination. That procedural ruling formed the foundation for overturning the disciplinary outcome and reinstating the club’s results.

LFA Connect Certification Upheld as Evidence

Beyond procedural timeliness, the Appeals Committee addressed the heart of the eligibility argument by reaffirming the legal significance of approvals recorded in the LFA Connect registration platform. The committee held that when the LFA Connect system accepts and confirms a player’s registration, that confirmation serves as definitive evidence that regulatory requirements have been met. The ruling emphasized that clubs are entitled to rely on the association’s registration interface when fielding players.

The committee further stated that subsequent clerical omissions or administrative lapses within the system cannot be imputed to a club unless there is clear proof of fraud, concealment or deliberate non-compliance. In Shaita Angels’ case, the Appeals Committee found no evidence of fraudulent intent or concealment regarding the registration of the three foreign athletes. That factual finding undercuts the substantive basis for the earlier sanctions.

Earlier Determination and CAS Jurisdiction Noted

The Appeals Committee also noted that questions relating to the three players’ eligibility had previously been adjudicated in an earlier appeal involving the same athletes. The panel said those earlier determinations remain binding within the LFA’s internal judicial framework unless overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The committee made clear that the LFA’s appellate structure respects the finality of prior rulings absent a successful external appeal.

By referencing CAS, the committee underscored the limited avenues for further challenge and the hierarchy of sports dispute resolution. The decision therefore concludes domestic remedies while leaving open the statutory right of any dissatisfied party to pursue international arbitration.

Immediate Impact on Liberia Women’s First Division

The restoration of points and goals to Shaita Angels is expected to have immediate consequences for league standings and the competitive dynamics of the Liberia Women’s First Division. Teams that had adjusted their tactical and strategic planning on the basis of the forfeitures may now need to reassess their positions and objectives as the season progresses. The recalculation of standings will affect promotion, relegation and the race for top honors.

League administrators will now be tasked with updating official tables and match records to reflect the Appeals Committee’s ruling. That administrative work must be completed promptly to ensure fairness in scheduling and in any decisions tied to placement and prize distribution. Clubs and supporters are likely to scrutinize the updated standings for implications that could ripple through the remainder of the campaign.

Club Response and Potential Next Steps

Shaita Angels released an official statement welcoming the Appeals Committee’s decision, characterizing it as a vindication of due process and a reaffirmation of consistent rule application. The club expressed gratitude to its supporters, players, technical staff, sponsors and partners for standing by the team during the dispute. Management said it would continue to cooperate with the LFA to ensure accurate registration and documentation going forward.

Ravia Angels, the club that filed the original complaint, retains the right to appeal the Appeals Committee’s decision to CAS if it chooses to do so. Any such appeal would require demonstration of legal or factual error sufficient to convince an international tribunal. For now, the LFA’s internal dispute resolution process has closed with a clear directive to restore Shaita Angels’ record.

The reinstatement also sends a practical message about administrative reliance on the LFA Connect platform and the importance of timely challenge filings. Clubs operating in the Liberian system will likely review their own registration and compliance practices to avoid similar disputes in the future.

Shaita Angels now return to competition with their full complement of points and goals, and with the eligibility of Kaddy Jarju, Z. Mary Nunoo and Comfort Osei Frimpong affirmed. The LFA Appeals Committee’s July 6, 2026 decision resolves a contentious episode that has attracted attention across the domestic women’s game.

The ruling highlights both the procedural safeguards in the LFA’s disciplinary code and the legal weight the association places on its electronic registration system. As the season resumes under the updated standings, clubs and officials will watch closely for any further developments or appeals.
