Extension Gunners announced a long-term investment arrangement with travel company DC Tours that would give the investor full ownership of the club’s newly formed holding company for a 15-year period.
The proposed agreement, still awaiting final signatures, is intended to stabilise the Lobatse club after a difficult campaign and the departure of a previous South African backer last year.
Club officials told members at the team’s Annual General Meeting in Lobatse that DC Tours will underwrite day-to-day operations, player logistics and off-field support as part of the deal.

The memorandum of understanding between Extension Gunners and DC Tours has been formalised and the definitive contract was delivered to the club by DC Tours’ legal team, the club’s interim chair confirmed at the AGM.
Under the current proposal, DC Tours would hold all shares in Extension Gunners Holdings, a corporate vehicle created to register the club under the Botswana Football League’s commercial rules.
Club leaders have submitted the draft contract to their own legal advisers and board for review before any signatures are exchanged, stressing that the arrangement remains subject to formal completion.
Operational Commitments from DC Tours
DC Tours has committed to providing a range of practical resources to professionalise the squad’s operations, including dedicated transport for training and matchdays, accommodation arrangements and daily meals.
The investor has also pledged to cover player allowances and broader welfare needs, which club officials say will address immediate financial pressures and improve preparation for competitions.
These operational commitments are being presented as part of an integrated plan to bring logistical stability and consistent support that the team lacked during its most recent season.
New Management Structure and Secretariat
As part of the transition, DC Tours intends to install its own secretariat and senior management team to oversee the club’s daily running, the interim chair disclosed.
The proposed appointments are expected to include a general manager, an accountant and a team logistics officer among other officials to professionalise administration and matchday planning.
The club’s executive committee will, according to the plan, cede day-to-day control to these appointed professionals while retaining oversight roles consistent with the governance arrangements of the new company structure.
Financial Context: Past Investors and Outstanding Liabilities
The announcement comes against the backdrop of a turbulent period for the Lobatse side, which lost its South African investor, Chief Ally Kgomongwe, in the previous year and faced financial strain on and off the field.
Club leadership acknowledged unresolved debts and prior FIFA-related sanctions that required attention, saying DC Tours’ involvement was motivated in part by the need to clear outstanding liabilities and avert further sanctions.
Officials said the investor’s early contributions had already helped the team avoid relegation and supported recent club events, underscoring DC Tours’ role in the club’s immediate financial rescue.
Supporters, Identity and Club Licensing
Club officials stressed that the proposed deal would not erase the club’s identity or its ties to the local community, emphasising that Lobatse would remain the team’s home and that its name and colours would be preserved.
Extension Gunners has been converted from a society into a corporate entity — Extension Gunners Holdings — in line with the Botswana Football League’s commercialisation regulations, meaning the holding company will be the formal competitor in the premier league.
The club said members’ names were included in the holdings registration and that supporters would retain representation in decision-making structures, while the executive committee would continue to manage the fan-run Extension Gunners Supporters Club as a society raising its own funds.
Sponsorship Landscape and Commercialisation of Botswana Football
The move follows a wider push to commercialise top-flight football in Botswana, where the league has taken steps to register as a commercially governed competition and tighten club licensing standards.
Officials argued that the DC Tours agreement aligns with that evolution by creating a single corporate owner responsible for compliance, finance and long-term investment, thereby making the club more viable commercially.
Local sponsors that previously supported the club in differing roles — including a gentleman’s agreement with a parlour and a technical partnership for kits — are expected to be integrated or superseded as the investor finalises a broader sponsorship package.
Tribute Match for Long-Serving Forward Finkie Mothibi
One key item on the AGM agenda was confirmation of a tribute fixture in honour of Finkie “Mathousand” Mothibi, who spent more than 16 years with the club.
The resolution approved by members states that Mapantsula, in coordination with Notwane, will stage an appreciation match at GU Stadium in Gaborone on August 1, giving supporters an early opportunity to engage with the club under the new commercial arrangements.
Club representatives described the match as both a celebration of Mothibi’s service and an occasion to demonstrate continuity of tradition as the club moves into a new ownership and operational phase.
The club’s interim chair urged patience while legal teams complete their review and said the board would update members once the final contract was signed and governance arrangements were clear.
Supporters’ groups have been told they will retain an organised role and that the club will remain rooted in Lobatse even as the investor implements new professional structures and resources.
If the contract is finalised, Extension Gunners will enter a 15-year partnership with DC Tours that aims to stabilise finances, improve player welfare and professionalise the club’s operations while preserving its local identity.
